The Gospel
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?
The word ‘Gospel’ simply means ‘Good News’. This good news is something that originated in the heart of God at the very beginning of time. The good news is that God loves us so much, that He sent His own Son, Jesus Christ into the world as a sacrifice, to provide salvation for all mankind (John 3:17, Romans 10:13). The Bible tells us that mankind is marked by sin both collectively (Romans 5:12), and personally (Romans 3:23, Psalm 51:5, Ephesians 2:3). Without repentance from both our nature and personal practice of sin (Mark 1:15), receiving forgiveness and being covered by the blood of Jesus (1 John 1:7, Ephesians 1:7), the Bible tells us that our punishment is to be separated from God forever (Revelation 20:15, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9). This is not something that God wants for you (2 Peter 3:9), but rather that you will repent from sin (Acts 3:19), receive Christ as Saviour (1 John 4:14-15), and rejoice in salvation due to Christ Jesus paying the full debt for your sin (Colossians 2:13-14, 1 Peter 2:24). All who repent of their sin and put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, will presently (Psalm 16:11) and permanently (John 10:28) have eternal life here in this life. Following death or The Rapture of the saints (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), they will enter into eternal life in its fullness, and will never perish (John 3:16).
